Root canals aren’t exactly what people dream about, but when tooth pain strikes, finding the right endodontist becomes pretty important. Hamilton has about 8 specialized endodontic practices, and honestly, the quality here is impressive — we found 6 that earned ratings of 4.3+ stars with 20+ reviews, averaging nearly 5 stars across the board.
What caught my attention is how specialized this field really is. Less than 3% of dentists are actually endodontists, which means these practitioners went through additional years of training beyond dental school specifically to master root canal procedures. Some of Hamilton’s endodontists have been perfecting their craft for decades, with practices like Excel Dental serving the community for over 35 years.
The technology side has evolved quite a bit too. Many local practices now use digital scanners, microscopes, and 3-D X-rays in-house, which means fewer visits and more precise treatments. Plus, most cases can apparently be completed in just one appointment — not the multi-visit ordeal people used to expect.

Customer Reviews:
Never in a million years would I have thought I’d leave a review after a root canal, but here I am. I’d heard so many stories about how painful the experience is, or how much discomfort you’d feel after, but none of that was the case with Dr. A. 5 Stars. I won’t trust my teeth to anyone else!
Pleased to share what a great experience I had with Dr. Amburle and his staff. For someone who has had a general fear of dental work, the thought of a root canal was daunting. Having completed the procedure this past Friday, I can say it went very smoothly and with very minimal discomfort. I really felt so well taken care of. They were checking in with me regularly throughout the procedure. I had a follow up call earlier today from Dr. Amburle to check in with me which was very nice.
The office is highly organized and the staff is all so very friendly. You will have a great experience with this team!

Very welcoming friendly and professional! Had a full checkup and my first dentists appointment in years and they were extremely helpful with scheduling things around my coverage and explaining what the procedures were. Everything else went smooth and fast without a hitch!
Absolutely an outstanding group of medical professionals! From the moment you arrive, you are warmly greeted by their lovely receptionist, who answers all your questions with care and understanding. Customer Reviews:
Dr DaCosta and his staff are amazing. As someone with extreme anxiety over dental work , they have made every visit very comfortable and calm. They are all so nice and actually care about how you are coping during treatment and after. Ty everyone involved in helping me both with my dental work and overcoming my fears
I’ve seen Dr. Da Costa a few times now and he is always extremely kind and very professional. He takes the time to listen to my concerns and addresses all of my questions without seeming rushed or inconvenienced. He does not push for procedures without being absolutely sure of a diagnosis and I really appreciate that (who wants unnecessary dental work?). I would recommend him time and time again. Very knowledgeable and amazing bedside manner.
I will never go anywhere else.

Customer Reviews:
I went in for a root canal yesterday with Dr Michele. I was very nervous about the needles, as I had a nerve injury from needles in the past. She was so knowledgeable, empathetic, easy to talk with and answered all my questions. There was no pain from the needles and the procedure went very smoothly. I will highly recommend her to anyone needing a root canal. I travelled over an hour each way to see her. Definitely worth it, she’s the best🤩
I had an appointment today with Dr Pakozdi & I couldn’t possibly have had a better experience. The staff at this office & Dr Pakozdi are compassionate, kind & understanding. I have been embarassed about my dental issues but Dr Pakozdi was kind & approachable, took the time to give me her best recommendations & ease my stress. I was very scared for my appointment today & was provided a sedative beforehand to assist, I was nervous about being a few minutes late but they were very understanding. This tooth was a “hot tooth” & in comparison to the last hot tooth I had root canalled it was night & day. The last root canal I had took 3 appointments that each left me crying & unable to eat for days from my regular dentist. With Dr Pakozdi as a specialist, I had very minimal pain & Dr Pakozdi was quick to provide more freezing when I had minor discomfort. She also took the time to ensure another recent site I had worked on healing okay. Throughout the experience I was updated with how things were going & checked up on a ton to ensure I was okay. This appointment on a broken & painful tooth only took about an hour & a half & I have 0 pain just a few hours later. If you’re considering her as an endodontist instead of your regular dentist for a complicated procedure you cannot go wrong 🙂 !

How to Choose the Best Endodontist in Hamilton
Since endodontists handle complex procedures that can save your natural teeth, choosing the right specialist matters more than you might think. The wrong choice could mean additional visits, complications, or even losing a tooth that could have been saved.
- ✓ Board certification and specialized endodontic training
- ✓ Modern equipment like microscopes and digital imaging
- ✓ Experience with your specific type of case
- ✓ Clear communication about procedures and costs
- ✓ Emergency availability and follow-up care
- ✓ Patient reviews mentioning pain management
- ✓ Comfortable office environment and sedation options
Specialized Training Matters
Real endodontists complete 2-3 additional years of training beyond dental school, focusing exclusively on root canal procedures. This specialized education makes a huge difference in success rates and patient comfort compared to general dentists who occasionally do root canals.
Technology and Equipment
Look for practices with surgical microscopes, digital X-rays, and rotary instruments. These tools allow for more precise work and often mean procedures can be completed in one visit rather than multiple appointments.
Pain Management Approach
Ask about their pain control methods and what to expect during recovery. Good endodontists should explain their anesthesia techniques and provide clear instructions for managing any discomfort afterward.
Follow-up and Availability
Quality endodontists check in with patients within 24-48 hours after procedures and have systems for handling emergencies. This kind of ongoing care can make a big difference in your overall experience and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a root canal cost in Hamilton?
Root canal costs in Hamilton typically range from $800-1500 depending on which tooth needs treatment and the complexity of the case. Front teeth are usually less expensive than molars since they have fewer roots. Most endodontists accept insurance and offer payment plans, plus all the quality practices in Hamilton accept credit cards and contactless payments for convenience.
Should I see an endodontist or just have my regular dentist do the root canal?
Endodontists complete 2-3 additional years of specialized training beyond dental school and handle root canals every day, while general dentists might only do a few per month. Less than 3% of dentists are actually endodontists, so you’re getting someone who’s truly specialized. They also have better equipment like surgical microscopes and can usually complete the procedure in one visit instead of multiple appointments.
How do I know if I need to see an endodontist in Hamilton?
Common signs include severe tooth pain when biting down, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling around a tooth, or a persistent bad taste in your mouth. Sometimes you might need an endodontist even without pain if an X-ray shows infection around the tooth root. Most Hamilton endodontists can see urgent cases quickly and will call you within 24 hours after treatment to make sure you’re recovering well.
