Finding the right oral surgeon in Hamilton isn’t something you want to leave to chance. When you need specialized procedures like wisdom tooth extractions, dental implants, or jaw surgery, the expertise of your surgeon can make all the difference in your recovery and results.
Hamilton’s oral surgery landscape is quite impressive. We analyzed about 42 oral surgery practices in the area and found 10 companies that consistently earn ratings of 4.3 or higher with at least 20 verified reviews. The average rating among these top performers is 4.9 stars, with an average of 600+ patient reviews each β pretty solid indicators of quality care.
What stands out most is the experience level here. Some practices like Credit Valley Oral Surgery have been serving the community since 1979, while others bring decades of specialized training. The technology game is strong too β many are using 3D imaging and digital diagnostics that weren’t even available a few years ago.

Customer Reviews:
We are 2-for-2 with CVOS. Dr. Kienle is possibly one of the best physicians across all modalities I have ever dealt with. Kind, knowledgeable, professional and thorough. Highly recommend.
I had one daughter have her wisdom teeth removed in the Oakville clinic, and the other in the North Burlington clinic. Both locations provided top notch care.
Would not hesitate to use CVOS for any oral care needs in the future.
I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Kodsi at CVOS, and I couldnβt have asked for a better experience. I was really nervous going into the procedure, but the nursing staff had amazing bedside manner and made me feel as comfortable as possible.
Before surgery, I was told my risk of nerve injury was high due to severe compression on my IAN from one of my molars, and that some temporary damage was likely. Dr. Kodsi did an incredible job. I have no nerve damage and my recovery so far has been very smooth. Iβm extremely grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend this team.

How to Choose the Best Oral Surgeon in Hamilton
Oral surgery is specialized work that requires both technical skill and experience. The right surgeon can make a complex procedure feel routine, while the wrong choice might lead to complications or extended recovery times.
- β Board certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery
- β Years of specialized experience in your specific procedure
- β Modern imaging technology like CBCT 3D scans
- β Clear explanation of treatment options and costs upfront
- β Sedation options available for anxious patients
- β Emergency contact availability post-surgery
- β Hospital privileges for complex cases
Specialization Matters
Look for surgeons who focus on oral surgery rather than general dentists who occasionally do extractions. Specialized training in oral and maxillofacial surgery takes 4-6 years beyond dental school and makes a real difference in complex cases.
Technology and Imaging
Modern practices use 3D CBCT imaging to plan surgeries with precision. This technology helps avoid complications and makes procedures more predictable, especially for implants or impacted wisdom teeth.
Sedation and Comfort Options
Good oral surgeons offer various levels of sedation from local anesthesia to IV sedation. They should discuss your comfort level and anxiety, then recommend the appropriate option for your procedure and temperament.
Post-Op Support
Recovery support is crucial. Look for practices that provide clear post-operative instructions, pain management protocols, and emergency contact information for complications that might arise after hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does oral surgery cost in Hamilton?
Costs vary significantly based on the procedure complexity. Simple tooth extractions might run $200-400, while wisdom tooth removal can range from $300-800 per tooth depending on impaction. Dental implant surgery typically costs $3,000-5,000 per implant including the crown. Many Hamilton practices now accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan for eligible treatments, and most offer payment plans. It’s worth calling for a consultation since prices can vary based on your specific case and insurance coverage.
What’s the difference between an oral surgeon and a regular dentist for extractions?
Oral surgeons complete 4-6 years of additional training beyond dental school, focusing specifically on surgical procedures of the mouth, jaw, and face. While general dentists can handle simple extractions, oral surgeons are better equipped for complex cases like impacted wisdom teeth, difficult extractions near nerves, or when complications arise. They also have hospital privileges and can provide various levels of sedation. If your case involves bone removal, multiple teeth, or you’re particularly anxious, an oral surgeon is usually the safer choice.
How do I prepare for oral surgery and what should I expect during recovery?
Pre-surgery preparation typically includes avoiding food and drink for 8-12 hours if you’re having sedation, arranging someone to drive you home, and stopping certain medications as directed. Most Hamilton practices provide detailed pre-op instructions. Recovery varies by procedure β simple extractions might need 2-3 days of soft foods, while complex surgeries could require 1-2 weeks. Expect some swelling and discomfort for the first few days. Good practices provide 24/7 emergency contact numbers and detailed post-op care instructions including when to call if something doesn’t feel right.
